AUGUSTA, Maine – The Maine CDC issued a notice Monday to ignore flyers listing supposed side effects of vaccines and claiming to come from the federal CDC.
The agency says the leaflet lists "known side effects of the vaccine" without providing references or citing any sources. In addition, the indicated website, cdc.org, is neither active nor supported by the federal CDC.
According to the Maine CDC, the "Educate Before Vaccinating" pamphlet was distributed in the big box stores in southern Maine.

"Misleading leaflets of this type are of concern, especially when this information is about something as important to public health as vaccines," said Dr. Bruce Bates, director of the Maine CDC. "I encourage everyone who encounters one of these leaflets to disregard it."

The Maine CDC says that immunizing your children and yourself will help protect you and your community from the risk of contracting a preventable disease through vaccination.
The CDC has a list of vaccine side effects on its current website, cdc.gov, which includes a sore arm or mild fever.
