PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – Halle Berry and Lena Waithe say they've updated the 1992 movie "Boomerang" for a new generation.
Berry said that the original story, centered on the lives and work of black characters, was innovative at the time.
But Berry said the problems that millennials face today are different and require a "cooler" approach to the BET comedy series that starts at 10pm. EST Tuesday.
Waithe said he understood people's fondness for the movie, including Berry, with Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens, David Alan Grier, Martin Lawrence and Grace Jones.
But Waithe said Monday that viewers who want new faces and a new take should watch the show. It takes place about 25 years after the film and follows the offspring of his characters.
The cast of the series includes Tetona Jackson, Tequan Richmond and Leland Martin.
