Nabco 1 Recruits are unhappy with the unpaid indemnities owed to them

Some National Builders Corps (NaBCo) recipients, who previously participated in the Youth In Reforestation program, will be demonstrating for arrears in the last four months.

Ellen Acheampong, spokeswoman for NaBCo's dissatisfied recruits, told Ghana's Yensom's Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) in Accra on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, that they had been working in various fields for four months without any stipend.

She explained that efforts to get the government to pay their arrears have proved futile, hence the planned event.

Ms. Acheampong noted that most of the affected recruits were previously involved in the Youth In Reforestation program and were receiving early compensation from the Forestry Commission.

However, after all resigned from the afforestation program and joined NaBCo, their situation worsened.

"The only language the government will understand now is a demonstration. And so we are demonstrating tomorrow to send a message to the government about our problems, "she said.

She added, "In the last four months we have not received a salary. How are they expecting us to live our lives? We were paid on time when we were with the Youth In Reforestation under the supervision of the Forestry Commission, but the situation has not been the same since we joined NaBCo. "

She also asked the Forestry Commission to help them to make sure they are paid because they were once their employees.

Joyce Ofori Kwafo, public relations officer of the Forestry Commission, told The Don: "All have submitted their resignation letter and, therefore, we have no commitment to them".

The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, launched Tuesday, May 1, 2018 NaBCo, a company employing 100,000 young graduates for the delivery of services in the public sector.

At the launch, Mr. Akufo-Addo said: "NaBCo will create one hundred thousand (100,000) jobs in seven (7) priority areas, defined as the following modules: Educate Ghana; Healing Ghana; Feed Ghana; Ghana Revenue; Digitize Ghana; Enterprise Ghana; and Ghana Civic.
