Evans Kwame Adablah was arrested with eight packages of the illegal substance
A district court in Accra sentenced an extensionist to 10 years in prison for possession of narcotics without legal authorization.
Evans Kwame Adablah was arrested on June 15, 2016 in Dansoman, Accra after police learned that he was peddling dried leaves suspected of being cannabis.
He was arrested at the last Dansoman stop with a black purse containing eight packages of illegal substance.
According to the police, the convict acknowledged the offense in his warning, but vehemently denied it when he appeared in court.
He changed his story in court stating that he had found the stuff after a young boy had pulled out his gazebo from a pitch after receiving the order.
He said that he had initially wanted to submit the substance to the police, but a friend whom he identified as being Amankwa told him that he could become rich again. he sold the substance.
He therefore begged Amankwa to help sell the drug. It was then that he was arrested by the police.
The court, chaired by Aboagye Tandoh, after weighing the evidence presented, concluded that the charge presided over by Police Commissioner, Patience Mario, was able to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.
He stated that the convict's statement that he found the substance under a raised gazebo was taken after the fact to prevent the law from taking its course.
He concluded that the results of the forensic laboratory tests had revealed that it was a good cannabis and that Evans Kwame Adablah knew what he had in his possession.
He declared the convict guilty and sentenced him to 10 years' imprisonment for hard labor.
Mr. Tandoh also ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police department to destroy the substance in the presence of the court clerk.
