Minister of Reorganization and Regional Development Dan Kwaku Botwe paid tribute to President Akufo-Addo for his courageous leadership in the process leading to the creation of six new regions..
Speaking at a ceremony on Tuesday during which the President issued the Constitutional Instrument (CI 116) to provide legal support to the new Northeast region, Mr Botwe said that Mr. Akufo-Addo had shown a rare political courage that motivated the appointees to participate in the process.
He said: "Politicians are often accused of not keeping their word, not keeping their promises and not believing the people who voted for them.
"There were some doubts when Her Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo launched this initiative to create new regions that reflect and support the deep and lasting aspirations of our citizens in the affected areas.

"Faced with such doubts and so many difficulties, it took a key leadership quality to ensure the continuation of this process – courageous leadership coupled with a firm vision … Our President has shown a rare political courage and we who served have been obliged to respond to this courage and help navigate the difficult political, social and economic terrain necessary for the success of this one ".
He noted, however, that a business of this magnitude could not be reduced to one person, paying tribute to the nation as a whole, as well as critics of the entire process.
The remaining regions awaiting the submission of their constitutional instruments are the North West, Ahafo, Bono-Est, Oti and Savannah regions.
