CLARK COUNTY, WA (KPTV) – A new case of measles was confirmed Tuesday by the Clark County Public Health Department during a seven-week outbreak.

Since 1 January, the Ministry of Public Health has identified cases of measles and the additional confirmed case is a non-immunized child aged 1 to 10 years.

Officials said the new case was under surveillance and the child was staying home to avoid further exposure.

Two other cases of measles are suspected, said public health.

Another outbreak update announced Tuesday by officials was that a previous confirmed case of measles was actually a mild rash of the vaccine. The child, who had not been immunized when laboratory results confirmed the initial case of measles, received a vaccine. According to officials, about 5% of previously unvaccinated people will develop a rash after receiving a vaccine.

With the addition of the new case and the subtraction of the other case, the total number of confirmed cases of measles is 53.

Two exposure sites badociated with the initially confirmed case were also removed from the list. Removed exhibits include St. Paul Christian Daycare (January 23), Vancouver Clinic Salmon Creek (January 23), Vancouver Office for Women, Infants and Children (January 23) and public areas. from Tower Mall (January 23).

  • Hospitalization: a case (none currently)

Health officials urge anyone who thinks they have been exposed in an identified place and who has symptoms of calling their health care provider before going to a health care facility.
