Akufo Addo President Spe President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo Dankwa congratulated her government for successfully implementing the proposals and creating six new regions, described as historic.

"We wrote part of the history of Ghana," he said on Tuesday, explaining that it was the first time in the 1992 constitution of Ghana that the provision for creating new regions was "invoked and successfully implemented".

In the run-up to the 2016 general elections, candidate Nana Akufo-Addo is then committed to facilitating the creation of four regions in the West, North, Brong Ahafo and North Regions, on a proposal chiefs and inhabitants of the region.

Upon taking office, he created the Ministry of Regional Reorganization and Development, primarily to lead the creation of new areas that, according to the government, were at the heart of the people living in these areas.

Since June 2017, through the ministry, the government has defended all the constitutional processes required for the creation of the regions, notably the referendum of 27 December 2018, which allowed the population to mbadively support the creation of six new regions.

With at least 80% of the votes cast, the inhabitants of Ahafo, Bono East, Savannah, Northeast, West North and Oti were created from Brong Ahafo, North Region, West Region and Volta Region.

In accordance with Article 5 (8) of the 1992 Constitution, President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday organized the first of a series of ceremonies at the Jubilee House in Accra to promulgate a constitutional instrument to give effect to the Northeast region.

Speaking at the event, Nana Akufo-Addo said she was struck by the overwhelming support of personalities from the political divide on the need to create the region.

"It was clear that the process was demand-driven and reflected the will of the people as desired by the constitution," he said.

"Gross political courage"

The Minister of Reorganization and Regional Development, Dan Botwe, who has not concealed his enthusiasm for the successes, said Nana Akufo-Addo showed what he called "raw political courage" "to be able to create new regions.

This, he explained, was due to the fact that he had to navigate difficult political, economic and social terrain before he could succeed in creating new regions.

"There were doubts when President Nana Akufo-Addo embarked on the adventure of creating new regions to reflect and meet the deep and long-standing aspirations of our citizens in the affected areas.

"There were even forecasts of national tensions and attempts had been made to delay the long-term desires of our fellow citizens," he said.

Despite these difficulties, Mr. Botwe said that his doubts and arrangements at hand, the president had shown courage and quality leadership to ensure the creation of new regions.

"Mr. President, when we have all been away for a long time and the history of our beloved country begins to be written, alongside all that Ghanaians are proud to endure the courage of. a president who dares to believe, dare to let his deepest democratic instincts materialize, dare to keep a promise made and dare to take a stand, "he said about Nana Akufo-Addo.
