Jospong, Hungarian company partner to solve the problem of wastewater in Kumasi

Sewerage Systems Ghana, belonging to the Hungarian group Jospong and the Hungarian company Pureco Limited, will soon start work on a 1,000 m3 wastewater treatment plant in the Ashanti region.

The state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant to be carried out between the Hungarian engineering company specialized in water resources and the Jospong group aims to solve the persistent problem of waste disposal. faeces in Kumasi and surrounding communities.

In an event intended to break the basics of plant construction, Jospong Group's executive chairman, Joseph Siaw Agyepong, expressed gratitude to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his dedication to development from the plant in general by surrendering 130 acres of land for the construction of the facility and other related activities.

He said the plant, which will be managed by Sewerage Systems Ghana Limited, will serve as a research center for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to conduct research activities on innovations. in the treatment of wastewater.

The 130 acres of land are located in Adegya, near Kumasi, in the Ashanti region.

The installation of 13 million euros, based on a robust Hungarian technology provided by Pureco Limited, will also have the ability to turn wastewater into compost for agricultural use.

Mr. Agyepong suggested that feasibility studies had been conducted for the construction of similar plants in Takoradi, Tamale and Tema.

Hungary's ambbadador to Ghana, Adreas Szabo, welcomed this partnership, describing it as the first of its kind for a Hungarian company to sign a contract with a Ghanaian company to carry out a project of this size.

He said the project would be financed by the Hungarian bank Exim and the Jospong group.

The Deputy Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Isvan Joo, hailed the project as the first wastewater treatment plant to be built in sub-Saharan Africa.

Minister of Public Works and Housing Samuel Atta Akyea, who spoke at the ceremony, also congratulated Jospong on his vision of the country.
