George Clooney's misguided comments about Meghan's dispute with his father are just another ugly spectacle of this unfortunate episode.

Her wild claims that the Duchess of Susbad is "pursued, vilified and pursued" while comparing her to Princess Diana are so broad in meaning and ultimately render her no service.

It's fair to say that Meghan has made some uncomfortable headlines, but to suggest that she's being hunted down by photographers or "the media" – as so many (mostly American) keyboard warriors would like – is simply not true .

However, in the past year, her father and extended family had very damaging consequences.

Should this be completely ignored? After all, every story has two aspects.

Some will say that it's time to call the time on the row and that no matter how you look at it, the complete breakdown of one's relationship with one's father is a tragedy.

The more Thomas, Meghan or his famous friends talk about it, the longer it will be, and no whitewashing of the truth, on any side, will make it disappear.
