Deputy of Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong
Parliament postponed until tomorrow, Wednesday, February 13, 2019, the hearing of the Privileges Committee's report on the contemptuous remarks allegedly made by Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.
Committee Chair Joseph Osei-Owusu noted that the report was not ready at the time the motion was moved and the committee was considering hearing the second case against the legislator so that 39, a full report can be presented to the House.
He therefore suggested that the committee aspired to prepare both reports and present them tomorrow.
Mr. President, this motion was much earlier, but it was left on the order paper for a while, and then another case involving the same member was referred to the committee, so the leaders thought we could maybe finish both and present the report together, "he said.
Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye decided that the committee should present its report on the first case of Mr. Agyapong, tabled by the Chief Whip and MLA for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
In July of last year, Agyapong reportedly described Parliament as "useless" to have Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu at the head of the majority.
The comments forced the minority chief bad, Muntaka Mubarak, to table a motion that led to Kennedy Agyapong being referred to the Privileges Committee.
According to reports, a dozen committee members voted in favor of suspending Mr. Agyapong, while 10 others also voted for his reprimand. One person, however, abstained from voting.
