The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, lodged a complaint against the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Attorney General (AG) for the violence that shook the by-election to Ayawaso. Wuogon West is held on January 31, 2019.
The writ filed in the High Court of Accra also designated the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Ministry of National Security as the other defendants.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah requests, among other things, an order of the court ordering the General Assembly to introduce a bill in Parliament, "with a view to the adoption of a law dealing with political vigilance in the body politic before the 2020 elections ".
He also wants the court to order appropriate compensation for those injured in the chaos that characterized the by-election.
The plaintiff is also asking the court to declare that the EC has the final say on the type of security that will be deployed in polling stations during the elections, as well as an order asking it to collect information about security in the voting zones.

Violence
Following the death of the incumbent in Ayawaso West Wuogon, Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, a by-election was held in the constituency on January 31, 2019.
However, the violence erupted when unknown gunmen invaded the Bawleshie residence of NDC candidate Kwasi Delali Berempong at Ayawaso West Wuogon.
At least 18 people were injured and were transported to the hospital.
On February 6, 2019, the government set up an investigative commission of four members to investigate the violence, chaired by the former chairman of the Commission on Human Rights and Human Rights. administrative justice, Judge Emile Short, presided over by Professor Henrietta Mensah Bonsu and a former inspector.
