MyNewsGh.com reported that Ghanaian staff working at the various Kotoka International Airport Terminals under the Ghana Airport Company Limited, Ghana Customs and Immigration, and some GACL third party partners have been exposed as beggars and petty thieves.

An investigation by MyNewsGh.com following a series of complaints from many Ghanaians and foreigners appalled by the begging of their eyes and the theft of luggage by KIA staff, revealed that the situation was more terrible and deeper than is often said.

GACL, immigration and customs personnel who are paid monthly (some with compensation) for the work they do at Kotoka International Airport, still harbad travelers to begging by demanding sometimes deliberately frustrated customers.

Travelers' luggage is sometimes opened and items stolen in their absence. When they are present during a search, officials choose valuables and declare to declare it as their gift (depending on the season).

Some travelers say that the objects they know how to use are sometimes seized by these officials for their own use. This mainly affects Ghanaian travelers, while begging targets both Ghanaians and foreigners, with whites being the most affected.

Twenty-eight (28) travelers using Terminal 3 randomly polled between Friday and Tuesday (yesterday) reported having faced the situation by begging. All. Only two had baggage issues but said that this was being resolved after filing formal complaints.

Of the 28, only 7 said they were able to fight and resist the payment of any beggar money. Interviewees said some KIA staff would harbad and push with emotional blackmail, also asking for in-kind gifts such as headphones, headphones, or just if you do not have money.

A traveler, Kwame Owusu Danso, expressed his opinion as follows:

"It is so shameful that Ghanaians working at Kotoka International Airport in Accra are pleading with travelers. They are men and women in uniform of immigration, customs and airlines. Each treated pbadenger is invited to lunch, to deposit something, to look after his children well before your departure, you know the tradition among others ".

"It is very disgusting that our country, Ghana, is dishonored in this way, as if people working at the airport were not receiving salaries. You go through other international airports and no one does this to you.

Officials from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, when they were called, declined to comment.

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has been encouraged to "introduce some discipline into the system by making announcements encouraging pbadengers to come forward to punish, such as Beggers in Uniforms at Kotoka International Airport. ".
