Seven people were arrested by police in the Savanna region as a result of the violence in Salaga that resulted in the fire of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency office and billboards.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday in Salaga, as a result of intelligence, to facilitate new investigations.
Angry youths railed to protest Damongo's designation by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, capital of the newly created Savannah region.
Briefing
Mohammed Yussif Tanko, public relations officer for the Northern Region Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), told reporters that the police had been mobilized following a distress call preventing young people from entering the country. Also torch the district badembly building as district chief's bungalow.
Mr Tanko said the situation had since been brought under control and that a reinforcement team had been deployed from Tamale to Salaga to help better control the situation.
He added that the suspects were quickly identified and that seven of them were subsequently arrested, adding that "the police in the region are investigating the matter and that the process of identifying and arresting several suspects is in progress".
He therefore urged the residents of Salaga to remain calm and not allow themselves to be punished and help identify more suspects in connection with the violence.
Gambaga violence
Meanwhile, the situation was no different in Gambaga, in the municipality of East Mamprusi, in the North-East region, with some young IDPs from the city expressing dissatisfaction with Nalerigu's designation as the capital of the region.
They allegedly burned billboards belonging to the nuclear power plant, burned car tires in the streets and attempted to set fire to state facilities.
However, the police reacted quickly and mastered the situation.
Denomination of capitals
President Akufo Addo Tuesday named Nalerigu and Damongo capitals of newly created regions of Northeast and Savannah, during a brief but colorful ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra.
The president also published the C.I. which allowed the complete creation of the two new regions.
The president of the northern region, Salifu Saeed, has been appointed by the president to occupy the new regions until the appointment of deputy ministers.
