Entrepreneurs demand to know when they will receive the arrears due to them after promises that are not kept by the government several times.
They are worried that the various promises to pay arrears have not been backed by an action and ask the government to know what is delaying their payments after obtaining a loan to pay them.
The contractors' payment was an election promise made by President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the last election that brought him to power.
After taking power, the president repeated his promise to pay the contractors but many entrepreneurs have still not been paid.
Last year, the government The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) has secured a loan of $ 1.5 billion to pay the contractors by October 2018.
The date of October was missed, but the entrepreneurs were promised that they would receive their money before the end of the year. 2018 after the approval of the loan agreement by the parliament in November.
However, two months in 2019, arrears remain unpaid.
Many construction companies have not been able to Pay salaries of their employees, while loans from financial institutions continue to earn interest. Some of them said that their vehicles had been impounded by financial institutions.
The agitated entrepreneurs ask their managers to make sure their money is well paid. The contractors also complained that they continued to be harbaded by the tax authorities as well as the National Social Security Fund (SSNIT) in order to meet their payment obligations.
President of the Association of Building Contractors and Civil Engineering of Ghana (ABCECG) m Prosper Yao Ledi, also expressed frustration at the delay in the payment of contractors.
He added that they hoped that they would be paid after the loan approval by the GETFUND. He stated that his consistent appeals and his follow-ups relevant agencies have not yet given the desired result.
"Every time, they tell us next week, every day next week and that next week never comes," m Said Ledi.
"At present, we do not even know what is causing the delay and the authorities must say we have something good and fast. "
Mr. Ledi said that after several pressures, payments were made to contractors for work done in 2016, but most of the arrears remain unpaid.
The president of ABCECG said that they were running out of patience and urged the government "not to let another week go by without payment".
Ledi said the contractors were willing to work with the government to accelerate infrastructure development in the country, but their capacity was being weakened by the persistent backlog in the payment of their work.
