BELGIUM: In Belgium, a pregnant woman underwent major surgery to extract the baby from the uterus, have it operated, and then place it in the uterus.
The surgery was convened when the 20-week uterine scan revealed an unusual condition of the baby, called "spina bifida". It is a conbad anomaly characterized by incomplete closure of the spine and membranes around the spinal cord.
According to some media reports, the couple chose to restrain the baby rather than finish it, and decided to continue the medical procedure.
Subsequently, the mother and her baby had to undergo numerous tests to make sure they were able to undergo the operation.
The surgery took place at the age of 24 weeks and was returned to the uterus.
Baby delivery is now scheduled for April this year.
