Apple and IBM CEOs Join Trump's Advisory Board on Manpower Policy

Apple CEO Tim Cook and IBM CEO Ginni Rometty are among the 25 appointed members of the US Advisory Council on Manpower Policy, which will work "to develop and implement a strategy to reorganize the US workforce to better meet the challenges of the 21st century. " at the announcement. The council will be co-chaired by the Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, and the daughter and president of the president, Ivanka Trump.

The council is part of a government initiative aimed at bridging the gap in skills that is growing in the modern economy, in part because of the ramping up of automation and the growing need for skills high technology as artificial intelligence becomes able to replace more jobs. The council is tasked with several tasks to help fill the skills gap that will allow the country to become familiar with advanced technologies. Members will participate in a national campaign to promote education and training, recommend ways to provide more relevant labor market data, and develop strategies to promote effective private sector investment in education.

To implement their strategies, board members will work with the National Council of American Workers, created under a Trump Decree-Law. Beyond the technology CEOs, leaders from education, retail and government have also been appointed to the board.
