Michael Owen reveals Liverpool's main transfer problem – and how they can solve it

Liverpool should aim for the next Mo Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino this summer, said former Reds striker Michael Owen.

The former hitman of Anfield said that his manager, Jurgen Klopp, would not find improvement on his dreaded penultimate. It must therefore target the best forward attackers from all over Europe.

Liverpool strikers are feared in football as the Reds prepare to continue their Champions League campaign against Bayern Munich next week.

But Daniel Sturridge is soon out of contract, Divock Origi will probably leave and Dominic Solanke having already left, Klopp will have to find a replacement for Salah, Mane and Firmino if Liverpool wants to continue defending his defenses until the next season.

And former England international Owen said the Liverpool manager had to sign either "the next young thing" or a seasoned forward approaching the end of his career.

While Klopp is trying to form a team capable of fighting for honors for years to come, an exciting young striker would be the best bet for the club and the fans.

"It's so much easier if you are a scout or are part of the recruiting department of any other club except the top six," Owen told Goal.

"I mean, where are you going? How are you going to target someone, and they say, "Am I going to start?" And you have to say "No, Salah will start or Mane will start"?

"One can not go for an absolute leading player unless they have only a few years left in their careers."

"Or you'll buy the next young man and maybe bleed him for about a year.

"Looking for someone in the belly of one's career, at age 24 or 25, is so difficult, and it's the only player who can really improve teams like this."

"I know it's a dream for everyone (hiring world-clbad players), but it's so hard to improve your team if you're in the top six, unless you're not happy with it. one of your players and that you seek to replace him.

"But Liverpool has a very good pre-game out of three, and so, if they buy, it will probably be one of the options I mentioned."

Liverpool players have taken a break from warm weather training in Spain as they do not have an appointment this weekend due to their defeat in the FA Cup against the Wolves last month.

The Reds will return to the Champions League next Tuesday, while they will host Bayern Munich at Anfield in the round of 16 first leg.

After that, the Jurgen Klopp team will travel to Old Trafford on Sunday for a clash with Manchester United that could prove crucial for the Premier League race.
