Former President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday reiterated his position that the actions of members of the New Patriotic Party's security forces in the by-election of Ayawaso West Wuogon were criminal and were to subject to prosecution.
He shared his views at a meeting with members of the diplomatic corps in Accra, attended by National President of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo; Secretary General Johnson Asiedu Nketiah; Deputy Chief of Minority James Avedzi; the former Minister of National Security, Kofi Totobi Quakyi; and senior members of the NDC.
In a statement issued by the former president's office, the briefing recounts the story of the NPP's introduction of vigilante groups, their training and the dangerous decision to arm them as well as to clothe them as alleged national security agents.
"Diplomats have seen multiple videos of barbaric attacks, gun violence, unchallenged confessions of responsibility by a state minister to the presidency, Bryan Acheampong, as well as videos of previous outings by the groups. government self-defense, Delta and Invincible. "

A number of people were injured in the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon on January 31, 2019, when the Electoral Commission held a by-election to elect a replacement for the deceased member of that region, Kyerematen Agyarko.
Heavily armed and dressed people, dressed as national security agents, stormed the neighborhood and home of the NDC candidate in the by-election, Delali Brempong, during which shots were fired sounded and momentarily disrupted the vote in a nearby polling station, with several people being permanently injured.
The government has since set up an investigation commission to investigate the incident and related issues.
