Man Utd and Arsenal must conclude summer deals to avoid other "damages" – pundit | Football | sport

On Wednesday, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan criticized what he calls a "paycheck culture" in modern football.

Jordan notably quoted Alexis Sanchez of Manchester United and Mesut Ozil of Arsenal.

Sanchez and Ozil are two of the highest paid players in the Premier League, each earning more than £ 300,000 a week.

Sanchez has struggled since arriving at United from Arsenal in January 2018 and Ozil has lost favor with Gunners head coach Unai Emery.

Jordan says that the salary of the pair is a "waste of money" and believes that clubs must get rid of the summer.

"There is a culture that worries me about football and it's a culture of" player with a pay check, "Jordan said on talkSPORT.

"Sanchez came to Manchester United for money. In the end, if he had gone to the club that was doing something, with respect, he would have gone to Manchester City.

"This is a very damning indictment where United was at the time. They only managed to get Sanchez because they outbid Man City according to the player's wishes.

"This culture worries me and it's a culture that permeates a lot of football clubs.

"I think that Marko Arnautovic belongs to this category, Diego Costa was towards the end of his career in Chelsea and Oscar clearly did so because he escaped from Chelsea at the age of 25 to play in China.

"When you look at Sanchez and Ozil – how much do you pay for them and how much do you receive?

"I think that Alexis Sanchez is a color exploded in English football and I certainly also think of Ozil.

"The only thing I would like to do is limit the damage, take it out, hope there is a situation in which they can get noticed elsewhere hoping that another country will make the same mistake as my dollar, always be someone else.

"It's a shocking waste of money when you pay for something without touching it.

"Why would football clubs allow such a decision? It is laziness, inefficient property, inefficient management and inefficient recruitment.

"Football is full of people who do the bare minimum and claim it to the maximum.

"These guys who think of working hard in football are laughable, because the ordinary guy on the street works hard and the footballers do not do it."
