Samuel Atta Akyea, Minister of Public Works and Housing, has started the construction of a 13 million euro wastewater treatment plant in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region.
The project, a partnership between the Jospong Group of Companies and the Hungarian technology company Pureco, plans to build the 1,000 m3 wastewater treatment plant, a first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa.
With the facility to be managed by Sewerages Systems Ghana Limited (SSGL), a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, it is expected to create more than 650 jobs for young people in Kumasi when it will be fully operational.
The Minister took the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Business Group, for his commitment to put Ghana on a development footing.
He congratulated Asantehene, Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for having released the 130 acres of land for the start of the project and urged all chiefs, as development agents, to be ready to give up land for the development of their jurisdictions.
Mr. Agyepong, who also expressed gratitude to Asantehene for having released the land, said the project had been launched due to the lack of such a facility in the area of ?? 39; Ashanti, which had resulted in the elimination of liquid waste in the water plans. caused the spread of communicable diseases among the population.
He badured Ghanaians that similar projects would be built in Tema, Takoradi and Tamale to solve liquid waste problems.
He congratulated the partner and the Hungarian government and badured that a new collaboration with the Hungarian government and people would see the Jospong group of companies acquire 100 emptying trucks and 100 compacting trucks, in order to guarantee the realization of the president's vision.
The representative of Asantehene who presided over the program was Nana Agyei Fosu Twitwiakwa II from Ananta Hene. He said that Asanteman is full of joy for the project. He added that Otumfuo hoped that such magnificent projects would be brought to the city to restore its former gardening glory.
Nana Twitwiakwa II said the Ashanti Council would continue to support such companies in the future.
The center will also serve as a research center for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and other institutions.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, badured that his government, led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, would continue to create an environment conducive to private sector growth. and urged all stakeholders to address the project with particular interest in order to complete it in a timely manner.
The project, jointly funded by the Hungarian government, Exim bank and the Jospong business group, will be operational in 18 months.
