The Auditor General, Daniel Domelovo, admitted that it was almost impossible to eradicate corruption in the country.
According to him, corruption has permeated all layers of Ghanaian society to the point of not being able to be completely eradicated.
However, Mr Domelovo was quick to add that the chancre could be managed to reduce its prevalence.
"Under the guiding principles of state policy set out in our constitution, the state is required to eradicate corruption and abuse of power. I did a little exercise to check the meaning of the eradication of corruption and I completely eliminated it. I said that in Ghana, this could never happen, "he said.
"Some said to completely destroy, I said the same thing, it can never happen. I continued and saw it reduced, and I said maybe that's what the constitution meant. With respect to the reduction, we may not be able to do it. "
The Auditor General spoke at a public meeting organized by Citi FM and the Media Foundation for West Africa.
He said that public education about corruption would greatly contribute to the fight against chancre in Ghana.
"I think if you want to eliminate or reduce corruption significantly, you have to do a number of things, including education. I think we need to clearly identify what constitutes corruption, "Domelovo said.
He further requested that the country's laws be amended to allow individuals to prosecute corruption cases.
This, he said, could help reduce the prevalence of corruption in the country.
"I seriously think that it is necessary to privatize or market the lawsuits for corruption."
"It is an offense that affects us all and we should all have the right to sue corrupt practices. This will help control corruption because if I aim to sue you, you will also aim to sue me. We will control each other, "added the Auditor General.
