14/02/2019 – SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) It turns out that you can not catch the flu, but it's not as effective at preventing the infection.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this season's influenza vaccine is 47% effective.
It is better for children under 17 with a rate of 61% and worse for adults 50 years and older with an efficiency of 24%.
In reality, this is a run in recent seasons, the rate oscillating between 19 and 48%. But that's not all bad news for the flu shot.
People who are vaccinated but still get the flu usually have less severe symptoms for shorter periods.
The flu kills thousands of people in the United States each year. The CDC says that there is still time to get vaccinated.
