Europa League: Celtic 0-2 Valencia – hosts easily beaten to the first leg

Denis Cheryshev (center), of Valencia, scored the first goal and prepared the second

Celtic has a mountain to climb to save its dream of the Europa League after Valencia's victory in Glasgow.

In a performance below normal, the Scottish champions rarely worried their visitors in the last first leg.

Ruben Sobrino broke the offside trap and fed Denis Cheryshev, who had an easy finish to give them in advance.

The two players then exchanged roles, Cheryshev's perfect cross allowing Sobrino to hit the second.

He leaves Celtic all he has to do in the return leg at Mestalla Stadium next week to try to qualify for the last 16.

    Reaction and how it happened
Valencia 0-2 Celtic: What was the rating of the players?

Celts pay for their mistakes

Celtic may have a dazzling light show before the match, but it has been largely overshadowed by the Spaniards. Even with four important players at home, they had too much for a Celtic team that has suffered an epidemic of misguided pbades, some under pressure, others under pressure.

Except for a good start, when Callum McGregor imposed a backup on Neto, it was a simple solution for visitors who would have preceded it much earlier if they did not have a backup. had not had to save Scott Bain from a Daniel Wbad head.

Any hope of seeing Celtic win a tie against the team in eighth place in La Liga was compromised by its deplorable inability to retain the ball. Every last of them were there.

Good possession offered in Valencia. Momentum killed dead stone. A total control grant to the Spaniards who had Daniel Parejo at the controls in the middle of the park.

Valencia would eventually charge Celtic for his mistakes. When Oliver Burke hit McGregor hard, the midfielder failed to keep it and when the ball took off, Valencia pulled out.

Parejo played behind the Celtic defense at Sobrino. Local fans – and half of the local team – shouted offside, but he was not. Emilio Izaguirre played it. Sobrino ran on, shot Bath and played it right at Cheryshev and the Russian tapped in. All too simple.

Celtic had a little luck at the break when Parejo failed to come back in the second half – Francis Coquelin, the former Arsenal player, replaced him. Not that it mattered. Four minutes after the start of the recovery, Valencia doubled its lead and it was again an extremely easy goal from Celtic's point of view.

Wbad played the game to the left of Cheryshev who put a nice center that was arranged with ease by Sobrino. The fact that the attacker was alone in Celtic's penalty area at that time speaks volumes about the delusional defensive that was going on there.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers shows tension as his team are beaten by Valencia

Three minutes later, Cristiano Piccini, a target of the Celtic group last summer, cut right and forced Bain to save the ball.

Two goals at home, Celtic was now in the same situation as Barcelona at Camp Nou when Valencia went there earlier in the month. Barca appealed to Lionel Messi to get them out of the hole, which he did with two goals.

Brendan Rodgers turned to Edward Odsonne and Timothy Weah, who replaced Ryan Christie and Scott Sinclair. There was no act of escape by Messiah. Celtic took more advantage of the ball, but Valencia never had the slightest problem, never bored unduly of what the Celtic threw at them. In the goal of Valencia, Neto remained inactive throughout the day of Celtic.

"Celtic needs a football miracle"

The Spaniards managed the match until the end of their routine evening in Glasgow.

With Celtic's record on the outside, one could say that Valencia did not just win a match, but a draw.

Next week, Rodgers' teams would not have the best performance on the outside to fight, this kind of performance on the outside that was previously invisible to them.

After this absence, they need a sort of football miracle in Spain.
