Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has called the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to restitution of a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the gold collector firm, Menzgold.

EOCO, which investigates the Menzgold scandal, obtained a court order in January 2019 to protect all badets of Menzgold and its subsidiaries.

The anti-graft corps then ordered all persons in possession of the badets of Menzgold to return them, warning that the refusal to do so would amount to contempt of court.

But the lawyer does not seem to worry about the possibility of contempt of court since he did not dare to make the vehicle seemingly worthwhile. from about 120 000 GH ¢ to the anti-graft body.

In an interview with Accra-based Neat FM, Mr Ampaw admitted to being in possession of the vehicle.

However, he insisted that he had acquired the car by legal means, claiming that he had invested 4 million GH ¢ in Menzgold.

According to him, he would only give the car to EOCO if Menzgold returned his money.

Menzgold Ghana Limited's operations were blocked following a September 7, 2018 Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) directive to end its illegal deposit taking with the public.

Menzgold's chief executive, Nana Appiah Mensah, known as NAM1, has since been arrested in Dubai and faces a lawsuit in that country.

Mr. Ampaw insisted, "Yes, I have the car owned by Menzgold, but the question is how I got this car.

According to him, "When Menzgold's problems started, I officially wrote to them that I needed my investment or that I dragged them to court. They told me that they had difficulties in mobilizing money. So we agreed to use their Toyota Land Cruiser Prado as a privilege until they refund me. "

He said, "I do not even use this car; I have so many cars that I use. If EOCO wants to know, I am not Shatta Wale to whom the car was offered for free, I am an investor. I will not give them the car today or forever until I get my money back. "

The lawyer added that "EOCO should put an end to this propaganda; I am the master in this game. They should rather learn the law and know what a privilege is. "

DGN Online is currently unable to verify Mr Ampaw's claim that he invested 4 million GH ¢ in Menzgold Ghana Limited.
