Jurgen Klopp could have become the manager of Bayern Munich 11 years ago
Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeness said Jurgen Klopp had almost become the club's manager in 2008.
Liverpool will host Bayern at Anfield on Tuesday in the first leg of the last first leg of the Champions League against the last 16.
But Hoeness said the situation could have been very different. Klopp's main objective was to replace Ottmar Hitzfeld 11 years ago, before the appointment of Jurgen Klinsmann.
Bayern President Uli Hoeness wanted to bring Klopp to the club
Klopp left Mainz that summer to take control of Borussia Dortmund where he spent the next seven years, winning the Bundesliga title twice, before joining Liverpool in 2015.
"Personally, I have a high opinion of Jurgen Klopp," Hoeness said.
Klopp aims to secure the first Premier League title in Liverpool since 1990
"Many years ago, we agreed to collaborate, but we instead signed Jurgen Klinsmann.
"There, I've shown that I respect him a lot and his work.This is going to be a difficult task for both sides.I hope we'll be first."
