  • Hunter Anderson caught a 10-kilogram fish resembling an overgrown goldfish or koi while fishing in a private Kentucky pond over the weekend.
  • While Anderson told USA Today that he thought his fishing was a goldfish, an expert said the fish was rather a butterfly-shaped koi.
  • Anderson took a photo with the rare catch before releasing it into the pond.

A man from Kentucky made a rare fishing trip this weekend.

Hunter Anderson told WKYT that he and his girlfriend were returning from Frankfort after deciding to stop at a private pond in Boyle County.

Missing typical baits, the 20-year-old player decided to tempt the fish in the pond with a remaining biscuit of breakfast.

Soon, Anderson was plagued by one of the strongest fish of his life.

"It's one of the hardest fighting fish I've ever beaten," he told the Courier-Journal.

But Anderson ended up winning the battle, fearing what he believed in the paper: a goldfish of 20 pounds and 30 inches long.

"You can not simulate that kind of fish," Anderson told WKYT. "It was crazy."

While Anderson thought it was an invading goldfish, Kevin Kelly, spokesman for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, told USA Today that the fish looked like a butterfly koi, judging by the "barbeau near his mouth".

After posing a few quick images, Anderson released the fish in the wild.

But since then, he catches tastes. Anderson's sister, Cbadie, posted a photo of the fish on Facebook, where he became viral.

"What you see is NOT a national geography! It's not a stolen image or a modified photo!" Cbadie wrote in the post. "It's my brother !! Who holds what could be … that goldfish that we hunted when I was 9 years old !!!"
