23 victims of kidnappings saved – Police | Social

George Tweneboah, deputy director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), announced that the police had rescued 23 abducted victims out of a total of 64 cases reported in 2018.

He said that of this total number, 11 suspects had been arrested, four of whom were in custody, while one of the kidnappers had been convicted and sentenced to ten years' imprisonment.

However, Mr. Tweneboah, Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP), said that 28 reported cases were kidnappings, 7 were missing, and the rest were dismissed as untruths.

The deputy director of the CID said this Thursday in Accra at a press conference on the security situation in the country.

ASP Tweneboah said investigations had already begun in all reported cases, adding that "cold" cases could take some time to investigate because of their sensitive nature.

He mentioned that among them were the murders of Pastor David Nabegmado, pastor of the Church of the Assemblies of God, of Tema, Mrs. Josephine Asante Tandoh, marketing manager of the Ports Authority and the authorities of the Ghana, and Mr. Divela Hussein Ahmed Suale, under cover. Giving details of Ms. Tandoh's murder, the CID told Christian Agyei, the suspect and domestic helper of the deceased, and Amos Apreku, the deceased's driver, who had been involved in investigations.

He added that they had been brought to court and placed in police custody.

On pressing the late Suale, he said the police had announced a set of incentives for any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Focusing on police measures to tackle criminal cases, ASP's Tweneboah said they had stepped up their cooperation with security agencies looking into intelligence gathering to ensure security in the country.

He added that the police would continue its public education campaign to educate the public about security tips, inviting them to disclose any information that could contribute to the reduction of criminal activity.
