President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has designated Dambai as capital of the new region of Oti.
The President made this announcement on Friday, February 15, 2019 during a presentation ceremony of Constitutional Instrument No. 112, which endorses the region of Oti.
President Akufo-Addo said that the creation of the Oti region and that of other newly created regions would contribute to the equitable distribution of national resources.
"The creation of the Oti region and the five other regions offers the country a new opportunity to reorganize the distribution of public services and infrastructure to better meet the needs of the people of these new regions," said President Akufo-Addo.
He pledged that the government would ensure that the needs of the newly created regions are met, stating: "The government is committed to maintaining the momentum of popular demand for the six new regions."

Archibald Letse, the current Volta Regional Minister, has been appointed Alternate Minister of the Oti region until the appointment of a deputy minister in the new region.

The region of Oti is the last of the six newly created regions under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo. Other areas are Northwest, Ahafo, Bono East, Savannah and Northeast.
Context
In October 2017, President Akufo-Addo, in accordance with Article 5, paragraph 2, of the 1992 Constitution, inaugurated a nine-member inquiry commission, presided over by Judge SA Brobbey , in charge of examining the request for creation of new regions recommendations.
The commission, after holding consultations at the national level, urged the government to create the six administrative regions.
Following its report to the President in June 2018, the Electoral Commission (EC) held a referendum in December 2018 in the affected areas to obtain the approval of the population.
