President Nana Akufo-Addo made the announcement Friday at a ceremony at the Jubilee House, where he also introduced the Constitutional Instrument to legally support the creation of the new region.

Sefwi-Wiawso was raised to municipal status in 2012 and its capital is Wiawso.

The delegations of traditional chiefs as well as the opinion leaders of the region attended the ceremony.

This is the fifth of six new regions created to receive the legal instrument after the Northeast, Savannah, Bono East and Ahafo regions earlier in the week.

Addressing the meeting, the President said that the creation of the West-North region is the culmination of unrest and pleas of northern residents of the region for about 40 years .

When creating the North-West region, President Akufo-Addo informed residents of Aowin, Bia East, Bia West, Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Bodi, Juabeso municipalities and districts. Sefwi Akontombra, Sefwi Wiawso and Suaman, who created the region to bring governance closer together and accelerate their socio-economic development.
