February 15, 2019, 14:45Tegucigalpa, February 15 (Prensa Latina) Health officials in Honduras have warned today against an increase of more than 1,160 cases of dengue fever.

The departments of Cortés, with 950 patients, and San Pedro Sula, with 410, recorded the highest figures in the metropolitan area.

Ninety percent of cases were diagnosed with dengue haemorrhagic fever. In this sense, the health authorities are investigating six suspicious deaths due to this disease.

Between January and February, dengue cases in Honduras increased by 70% compared to the same period in 2018.

According to health authorities, recent rains in the north have contributed to the rapid reproduction of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

High fever, rashes, pain in the muscles and joints are some of the symptoms of this disease. In the most severe cases, there may be heavy bleeding that can lead to death.
