This season was largely devoted to Paulo Dybala's unchanged role in the starting lineup, a role that rarely seems to find the net instead of lightening things up as he thought when he teamed up with Cristiano Ronaldo. It's not that Dybala played badly this season, it's just that his role on this team, at least in the first half of the season, was different from previous years.
That said, it would be perfectly acceptable for you not to remember spontaneously the last time Dybala had scored a goal in the league this season. Heck, he's scored internationally more recently than he's been to the back of the net in Serie A – it's something I know because I've looked at it.
All this, my friends, is a thing of the past.
Dybala not only ended his drought in Serie A dating back to the early days of November, but he ended his series of goals in the league with absolute authority. Dybala's brilliant left-foot shot from the penalty area in the sixth minute set the tone for Juventus' 3-0 win over Frosinone at Allianz Stadium on Friday night.
And let me tell you that Dybala's first goal in almost four months was quite reasonable.
I mean, it's just a beautiful thing. When Dybala gets the right result with his left, it can be a simple moving poetry. And this thing was an absolute work of art for which Marco Sportiello had no chance of seeing Dybala's second contact with the balloon.
And as we have seen, it was more of a magnificent purpose of Dybala. It was probably one of his best games of the season.
The goal will obviously be what the players will get out of this win – and rightly so, since Dybala scored a national goal for the last time – but that's the overall performance of Juve, No. 10, which should be encouraging . Dybala mainly benefited from the positive clash against Sbaduolo over the weekend and expanded on his return to the starting lineup. Dybala created opportunities for himself, for his team-mates and was practically everywhere in the third of Frosinone's peloton while Max Allegri continued the trend of giving his trident a great freedom of movement wherever they pleased.
And knowing who will be Juventus soon and the magnitude of this match, see Dybala really looks like the dangerous Dybala who threatens when the ball is at his feet simply made me smile. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Say what you want about the opposition, but Dybala, that's fine.
Juventus is the good one. She does not do nonsense against the relegation fighters.
So much of this victory was very good.
Juventus could have easily removed half of its collective brain cells in Madrid thinking of red and white thoughts. However, they did not do it and they did business on Friday night.
And they looked very good doing it too.
THOUGHTS AND RANDOM OBSERVATIONS
- I wonder what adidas and Nike advertisers have been thinking since they see Dybala and Ronaldo combine their respective celebrations.
- Consider me as surprised when I saw the starting lineup and that Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci were at the heart of Juve's defense. We knew that Bonucci was a chance, but Chiellini was another matter since Allegri himself had qualified his captain for doubt at the pre-game press conference.
- Pack them in bubble wrap for the next four days so that Wednesday's trip to Atletico Madrid is not a problem.
- Ronaldo scored 19 goals in 24 Serie A games. He has played more minutes than any member of the team and has eight badists. Decent return.
- In addition, Ronaldo saw one of his free kicks crashing down a jump wall and be saved then saw another one just pbad over the bar. Depending on how the season went from no-ball situations to Juve's 7th, I would say it's a good progress.
- Want to know how much Bonucci's goal was close to Sami Khedira's? Viewing.
- I know it's Frosinone. I know it was already 2-0. I know the game was already over. But damn it, for the second time in a row, we saw Juventus give themselves a good goal.
- Wojciech Szczesny has released a Gigi Buffon and does not really have to do much.
- Emre Can has been harbaded by people here in recent weeks with his game, but against Frosinone, he led the team in the tackles (6), led the team in interceptions (3) , got two releases involved as anyone in a black and white jersey. It's a lot, a lot better.
- I love the way Joao Cancelo makes crosses with the outside of his boots. It does not look like him.
- I'm sad that Allegri did not give Moise Kean a few minutes. It was the kind of match – especially with a lead early in the game – where an appearance in the second half would have been so logical.
- Counterpoint: Using one of your submarines to make sure that Giorgio Chiellini stays 100% healthy at Atletico Madrid is also something I feel perfectly good about.
- Juve will have a 14 point lead in Serie A for at least 48 hours. It's hilarious.
