The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) has expressed concern over the tension and threats that have presided over the announcement of capitals for the newly created regions.

On Tuesday, when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that Damongo would be the capital of the new Savannah region, the youth of Salaga went on a rampage and destroyed the properties of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

They even burned down the office of the South Salaga constituency. Defects in Nkoranza have also welcomed the designation of Techiman as the capital of the newly created Bono-Est region.

"The CNCE reminds Ghanaians, especially young people and all citizens of newly created regions, that violence, intolerance and contempt for the rule of law have no place in our democratic space and that are unacceptable in any modern democracy, "the Commission said in a statement of 14 February 2019.

"Citizens must defend and preserve the rule of law for the protection and preservation of the fundamental human rights, peace, unity, cohesion and stability of our nation, Ghana."

President Akufo-Addo has already named the capitals of the six new regions.

North West – Sefwi-Wiawso

The Commission urged those concerned to "use regular procedures to express their grievances in order to maintain peace in the country".

"People in affected areas are encouraged to partner with the government to ensure the development of their regions and the country as a whole so as not to undermine the purpose of creating the regions. "

Some leaders have been accused of being behind demonstrations.

The Nkoranze leaders wanted their city to be the capital of Bono East For example, in Nkoranza, the leaders led a procession before the announcement of Techiman as the capital of the Bono East region.

"The NCCE reiterates the need for leaders, opinion leaders and stakeholders in affected regions to be cautious in their statements and refrain from making statements that might stir up pbadions in order to to prevent violent actions. "

He also asked residents of cities selected as regional capitals to celebrate in moderation in respect of the rights of others.
