Apostle Eric Nyamekye, President of the Church of Pentecost
The Pentecostal Church discourages excessive noise emanating from its local bademblies, calling for strict adherence to the rules of the permissible noise level.
This is contained in a five-year strategic vision of the Church (Vision 2023) dubbed "Owning the Nations" implemented by the Church under the presidency of Apostle Eric Nyamekye.
The Vision 2023 strategy focuses on influencing and facilitating national development with the values and principles of the kingdom of God and investments in infrastructure.
The Church therefore asked its congregations to give up "excessive noises during services, especially during night prayer sessions".
"All churches will be encouraged to comply with noise abatement regulations," said an excerpt from Vision 2023 published on November 12, 2018.
By the end of 2017, the Church of Pentecost had 20,863 local bademblies in 99 countries and a total population of about three million inhabitants.
The noise pollution caused by churches and prayer camps has become an embarrbading threat to many residential homes across the country, a situation that sometimes leads to clashes and prosecution.
Last week, for example, the High Court of Accra, presided over by Judge Novisi Afua Aryene, ordered the Haatso branches of the ICGC and the Cross Road Community Church Ministries to compensate 40,000 GH ¢. (20,000 GH ¢ each) to two residents of the region for excessive noise and nuisance.
In the judgment, the judge stated that the two churches had violated the building regulations by using a property located in a residential area for the purpose of unauthorized worship and that their noise level was excessive and contrary to the rules of the law. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
"The EPA found that the noise level had a minimum of 76 decibels dB (A) and a maximum reading of 86 dB (A). The allowable daytime noise level by the EPA for residential areas is 55 dB (A). According to the evidence, I declare that the noise was clearly greater than the allowable noise level in a residential area where the church was located, "said Judge Aryene.
