Last fall, sources close to the royal family revealed that a potential split was underway. And now, it seems that the rift between Prince William and Prince Harry can really happen. If the first reports are true, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Susbad will split their home in the coming weeks, marking the end of an era for the royal brothers.
Here is what we know about the split of Kensington Palace, including how it will change the royal family and whether there is anything to do with the alleged quarrel between Prince William and Prince Harry.
They shared a royal house for 10 years
Prince William and Prince Harry have been working together and sharing a royal house for a decade. But now, the sons of Prince Charles have their own family and their own life separated from their brotherhood.
The split would take place before the arrival of Baby Susbad
With the expiry date of Meghan Markle fast approaching, the pressure is strong to make a decision regarding their royal household. If the rumors were true, the royal split would occur before Baby Susbad's arrival in late April or early May.
They now have different royal responsibilities
Is one of the main reasons for the split? Their royal responsibilities no longer align. As Prince Charles is about to become the next monarch, Prince William is preparing to badume his new role as heir to the British throne (and future king of England).
After having moved to sixth place, Prince Harry's royal duties seem very different. He will continue his philanthropic work alongside his wife, but will also focus on adopting a more "normal" way of life and raising his children.
Susbad family moves to Windsor
Before the arrival of their royal baby, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to settle in a renovated 10-room mansion on the Windsor Estate estate. The Duke and Duchess of Susbad set up an old building called Frogmore Cottage, which used to be staff quarters.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not change office
Despite their move, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still plan to operate from Kensington Palace. Their office will remain at Kensington Palace, near the headquarters of the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace.
The Cambridges will become Prince and Princess of Wales
Once Prince Charles ascended the throne, Prince William and Kate Middleton will become the Prince and Princess of Wales. In doing so, they will badume the same responsibilities as Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. When that happens, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will badume the current duties of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have their own ambitions
Although they may have some of the responsibilities of their brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be "ambitious and willing to chart their own way."
They discussed separate homes before the royal wedding
Some argue that the recent tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry could have caused the royal split (and the big move to the countryside). But, apparently, the Dukes discussed the possibilities before the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last spring.
