A total of 233 communities in the Ashanti region will benefit from a grid extension project undertaken by the Ghana Electricity Corporation (ECG).
The extension project, which is expected to improve the distribution of electric power in localities that have experienced an increase in population growth, economic activities and new physical developments, is being implemented as part of the project. Special Intensification Network (PIMS).
It should start in March of this year and end in six months.
Dr. Samuel Boakye-Appiah, Executive Director of ECG, said this during the inauguration of the project's storage facilities in Boadi, near Kumasi.
He said the PIMS would cost $ 8.2 million and cover more than 900 communities across GCE operational zones in the country.
The Director General said that selected communities in the eleven commercial districts of the ECG of Ashanti region, including Abuakwa, Bekwai, Danyame, Dunkaw, Effiduase, Konongo, Mampong, Manso Nkwata, New Edubiasis, Offinso and Suame, would benefit from the project.
Boakye-Appiah said the storage includes two warehouses, two office buildings, two workshops, a lubrication bay, a canteen, a water tap, a conference room and offices.
He said the three main objectives of the project are to ensure reliable power supply, improved operational efficiency and improved customer support in the Ashanti region and throughout the country.
The project would help reduce distribution network losses, frequency and duration of outages, as well as improve network voltage and capacity.
The CEO said that the ECG would continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the electricity supply chain is discharged efficiently and reliably.
