Mali wins first U-20 Nations Cup title after defeating Senegal on penalties

Mali beat Senegal 3-2 on penalties to win their first U-20 Nations Cup title (Total U-20) after a 1-1 stalemate after the extension to Niamey.

The Aiglons held their nerves during fierce shots to give Senegal their third consecutive loss in the final.

Mamoutou Kane's charges opened the scoring at General Seyni Kountche Stadium after fifteen minutes had pbaded when Boubacar Traoré hammered Hadji Drame's delivery as Senegal fell behind for the first time in the tournament.

Youssouph Dabo's Lionceaux responded 17 minutes into normal time by FC Metz's Amadou Ndiaye, who opened the scoring to tie the game to overtime and penalties.

Senegal missed its first free kick when the midfield kick hit the post.

The young Malians converted their three consecutive penalties via Boubacar Traoré, Lbadana Ndiaye and Abdoulaye Diaby.

Tournament striker Amadou Ndiaye missed a kick before his teammate Ousseynou Niang also missed the match to secure the title in Mali.
