Emiliano Sala's dog seemed to be waiting outside the funeral to say a last goodbye to the Cardiff City footballer on Saturday.
Thousands of people in mourning attended the service in the 28-year-old town of Progreso, Argentina, with Bluebirds director Neil Warnock among them.
And the attendants saw Nala, the black labrador, in front of the service as people entered to pay tribute to the attacker.
Sala's plane disappeared on the Channel last month as he was traveling from Nantes to Cardiff, which he had just been transferred to as part of a record deal for a £ 15 million club.
One of the reasons for Sala's return to France would have been to start the process of transferring Nala from kennel to France to the Welsh capital, where the 28-year-old would start his career in the Premier League.
He had Nala shortly after moving to Nantes in 2015 and regularly shared clichés of both on social media.
After her disappearance and before her body was found, Sala's sister, Romina, shared an Instagram photo of Nala patiently waiting for the return of the attacker.
Romina has confirmed that she will take care of Nala now.
"Nala, your loyal company is now ours," she explained on Instagram.
"We never thought to leave it for adoption, so I'll clarify that so people know."
The body of the pilot David Ibbotson has still not been found.
