Since the 2005-06 season, at least one German team has always managed to qualify for the last eight.
This proud race will be threatened if Bayern suffer a heavy defeat in the first leg of the last 16 games before the second leg on 13 March.
"We can not make mistakes in these matches, but I think we can cause problems in Liverpool," said Bayern midfielder James Rodriguez.
"We have a good enough team to pbad, if it goes well."

"We must be more compact.
"When you work without a ball, there is order in our games, but on the wings, we were caught off guard and punished accordingly."
Bayern Munich President Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said he was disappointed to see Dortmund beaten by the Spurs.
"I did not smile and I was not happy I lost 3-0," Rummenigge said.
"I think (the result) is not good for the Bundesliga … These two clubs have always sported the flag (for Germany) in Europe."
