TOKYO – Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries announced Monday the doubling of its hydraulic machinery production capacity in India through the opening of a second plant in Bangalore.
This move meets the growing local demand for medium and large construction equipment.
On February 16, Kawasaki Heavy held the opening ceremony of 800 million yen ($ 7.23 million) facilities. With an annual capacity of 20,000 hydraulic units, production will begin in April.
Demand for hydropower rose sharply around November 2017 due to a sudden rush of infrastructure investment in highways, railways and ports, according to the company.
Other Japanese construction machinery manufacturers are also strengthening their local capabilities. The new Kobelco Construction Machinery excavator plant will be operational in April.
As a result of rising global demand, Kawasaki Heavy plans to increase its hydropower capacity in China, the United Kingdom and Japan. Overall capacity is expected to increase by 25% by March 2022 compared to 2018.
Kawasaki Heavy plans to transfer all of China's hydropower production from Nishi-Kobe Works, its parent plant in the Japanese city of Kobe. The company's goal is 100% local production. A new plant will be commissioned in Suzhou China as early as summer 2020 and will be the fourth of the company in the city.
