Bitcoin debit card supported by Coinbase for closing operations in April

The Shift Bitcoin (BTC) debit card, which allows users of the US cryptocurrency system using Coinbase to use BTC with a Visa debit card, would have ceased operations. The development was published on Reddit on February 18, with the sending of an email allegedly from the Shift team.

Shift, which was launched in November 2015, was part of a growing cohort of crypto-encrypted debit cards, with many vendors now issuing them in different countries.

According to a screenshot of an e-mail downloaded on Reddit and attributed to the Shift team, the BTC debit card program will be deactivated on April 11, 2019.

Shift has not specified the reason for withdrawal of its own product and the cards will continue to operate normally until the deadline.

From its launch, Ciftelegraph explained that commentators in the sector had a hard time guessing a target market large enough for the card. To obtain it, users must already hold Bitcoin in order to pay the $ 20 issue fee.

On the social networks, the responses also highlighted the likely lack of demand that would have motivated the decision of Coinbase.

The stock market continues to expand its activities in other areas. Last week, she unveiled a controversial feature allowing users to store the private keys of their cryptocurrency portfolios in the cloud.
