Man City star Raheem Sterling shared a heartwarming image of himself with a 13-year-old Newport County fan who has been a victim of racial abuse.
Last month, the English international wrote to Ethan Ross to encourage him to deal with the violence after receiving a letter from the grandmother of teenage girl Sue.
Sterling's response to Ethan – which included a signed photo of the man from Man City – became viral on social media.
The letter read as follows: "Dear Ethan, Nanna Sue, your sweetheart, recently told me that you had faced considerable difficulties with regard to racial violence.
"Do not forget to stand up and be proud of who you are and do not let them take away your courage.
"You are strong and very brave, and your Nanna is also very proud of you, continue to be your kid.
"Remember, talking does not always make life easy, but easy never changes anything.
"Sincerely, Raheem Sterling."
Sterling met the teenager after Man City's FA Cup win over Newport County on Saturday night.
The 24-year-old photographed with Ethan and handed him a Man City jersey.
And the Times reports that Ethan gave Sterling baked Welsh cakes by his grandmother Sue in return.
After meeting Ethan, Sterling wrote on his official Twitter account: "It was probably as comforting to me as finally meeting you, Ethan.
"Again, always be proud of who you are and never stay silent. #SpeakUp #youthsarethefuture."
"It was amazing to meet Raheem," Ethan told The Times.
"He gave me a signed jersey, I was shocked, I could not sleep after the game."
"He had just told me about what had happened at school, and I said," My husband made Welsh cakes. "He just said," Thank you "and he started laughing!"
Sterling was an unused substitute in the fifth-round match at Rodney Parade, while Man City won the match 4-1 against Michael Flynn.
The winger – who was part of the English team that qualifies for the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia – was himself a victim of alleged racial abuse during the defeat 2-0 of his Premier League team at Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in December.
The cameras captured Colin Wing, 60, shouting at Sterling during the match, while the English international made fun of the abuse at the time of the incident.
Mr. Wing apologized to Sterling for his actions, although he denied having racially abused the former Liverpool man.
