NDC confused about money

The opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has cleared some confusion about the money that former President John Mahama and the NDC would have given to regional party presidents.

Daily Guide sources in the family of umbrellas have hinted that on Saturday, February 9, 2019, Mr. Mahama, who hopes to head the CND for the second time in the 2020 presidential election, held a meeting with the 10 NDC regional presidents at his office to discuss how to strengthen support for his bid to win the race.

The former president would have budgeted an amount of 2 million GH ¢ for this project.

Each of the 10 regional presidents received GH ¢ 100,000 and GH ¢ 30,000 for each of the 275 constituency presidents to ensure that he won the primary.

Audits with some constituency leaders revealed that although many of them had heard of the existence of this money, they said the money had not yet come to them.

They claim that regional leaders refuse to pay them money.

At the same time, some branch leaders would be unhappy with the situation in which district and regional leaders raise money from candidates promising to get all branch leaders to vote for them.

They said they are not "zombies" to follow what constituency presidents are telling them and are determined to send a strong signal that they should not be taken for granted.

Recalling that in September 2018, Mahama, addressing NDC delegates in Awutu Senya, said the funds for the 2016 NDC campaign were not going to the base and that this had contributed to the defeat of 2016. It seems like history is repeating itself.

Mr. Mahama at the time said: "I have noted all our mistakes. We realized that campaign funds had been diverted but we learned our lessons. We will ensure that the campaign funds go through the right channel to carry out the campaign. In 2020, we must stand up and be vigilant. I am confident that at the end of the poll, NDC will be declared the winner, "he said.

On Saturday, February 23, the NDC will go to the polls to elect its presidential candidate for the 2020 elections and Mr. Mahama is expected to sweat-free.

However, he will face pockets of resistance from Alban Bagbin, Alhaji Nurudeen Iddrissu, Sylvester Mensah, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Goosie Tanoh and Prof Joshua Alabi.
