Chinese Gold Ore Security personnel at the mine arrested eight illegal miners on Saturday

Eight illegal miners were arrested for allegedly stealing gold ore from a Chinese Gbane mining concession in the far east region.

They reportedly used unapproved routes to enter the Shaanzi mine, which has been closed since 23 January and has killed 16 people.

Security personnel at the mine arrested the eight illegal miners on Saturday and handed them over to the regional police command for prosecution.

On January 23, the Minerals Commission ordered Shaanxi Mining Ghana Limited to temporarily cease operations following the deaths of 16 illegal miners in Gbane in Talensi District.

An explosion on January 23 claimed the lives of 16 illegal miners and injured several others. They would have ignored the warning to no longer prospect because Shaanxi had planned to blow up their dealership with explosives.

Police in the area told 3news.com that the suspects will be brought to justice on February 18 under two counts of theft and illegal entry, reported our correspondent Tanko Mohammed Rabiu.
