The termination of their contracts was carried out after an audit of the employees of UT and Capital Banks who revealed problems with a minimum qualification of about 160 people.

Around 57 workers were dismissed for not having the required minimum qualifications.

The workers did not pbad the mathematics and English tests on the SSSCE (Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination) and West African Certificate School Certificate (WASSCE) exams, which forced GCB to terminate their contracts.

Their letter of "termination of the employment contract" was issued by the human resources manager, I. Kojo Essel Junior.

In a letter dated February 12, 2019, it was stated: "We wish to inform you that your services at the Bank will no longer be necessary with immediate effect.

"You will receive a salary equivalent to one month's basic salary, in accordance with Article 29 (a) of our collective agreement and other benefits to which you may be entitled under your employment contract (net of any debt owed to you). Bank).

"You must surrender all business property that may be in your possession, including, but not limited to, documents, manuals, a computer / laptop, a mobile phone , an identity card, a badge, an electronic access card and keys before your final departure.

"On a copy of this letter, it was advised to the Chief Information Officer to block your access to the Bank's system and network."

Some of the workers who feel aggrieved said the treatment was inhumane.

Raymond Addae Danquah, spokesman for the workers in an interview with Accra-based Clbad FM, said: "At the moment we are talking about, we have about 57 people who have been fired. to our colleagues.

"The fact that someone has had a D or an E in one of these core subjects and that you use it as a basis to terminate his or her term, is inhuman and it is time for GCB to rehire these people before going further, because let's not let go, we take it to the extreme. "

He added: "If they are not reengaged, we will go to the extreme to make sure the right thing is done." The people who were fired, some of them have completed their Master.
