The Brazilian striker had been unsure for the Champions League the last 16 games to go after a virus, but he has now been allowed to play.

Liverpool received a boost before their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich. Roberto Firmino has been authorized to join Jurgen Klopp's team.

Firmino had missed training Monday in Melwood because of a virus, but was able to rejoin his teammates before tonight's match.

The news will be a boost for Klopp, who is already preparing to use midfielder Fabinho as center back for the first leg of the last 16 first leg at Anfield.

Dejan Lovren is unlikely to appear after yesterday's practice session, as Croats have yet to recover from a thigh injury suffered last month.

Firmino, however, should start with a three-man attack with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, which means the Brazilian will maintain his record of participation in Liverpool's 34 European matches under Klopp.

Bayern, meanwhile, will make a late decision against winger Kingsley Coman, who suffered a knock at the door of his Bundesliga match with Augsburg last week.

The center back Jerome Boateng will however not be available and was absent from the group traveling to Liverpool due to illness.

The Reds currently play five games without defeat in all competitions. They were defeated for the last time against the Wolves in the FA Cup on January 7th.

Klopp's men were beaten three times in the Champions League group stage, but a 1-0 win over Napoli in their last match allowed them to qualify for the last 16 games behind PSG.

Bayern have won four of their six group matches, scoring 15 goals. Robert Lewandowski is currently the tournament's top scorer for the 2018-19 season with eight goals.

The Bavarians have not quite succeeded. Bayern are currently ahead of Dortmund in the Bundesliga title race, although they managed to narrow the gap to just three points on the last day.

In 2017, Liverpool faced Bayern in the Audi Cup. The goals of Mane, Salah and Daniel Sturridge had allowed the visitors to win 3-0.

The Reds also won a 3-2 UEFA Super Cup victory over their German opponents in 2001, John Arne Riise, Emile Heskey and Michael Owen on the attack in this Stade Louis II match.
