Former President John Dramani Mahama
Former President John Mahama will strive tirelessly to win the 2020 elections through the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
That's the badurance he gives to party delegates as he prepares to hold his presidential primaries on Saturday [February 23].
In a campaign message aired Tuesday on his Facebook page, John Mahama said he was ready to work with party supporters to make this party win the 2020 elections.
He pointed out that a government under the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would tackle the problems of unemployment and the high cost of living in the country.
"When you vote for John Mahama, I will fight and work day and night with you to ensure our victory and address the problem of unemployment and the high cost of living in the country," he said.
He emphasized that he would be in the best position to improve the economic situation and create more jobs for young people in the country.
"Together, we will present our compatriots with a renewed and invigorated NDC, a party ready and able to take Ghana beyond the unprecedented economic difficulties of today, the increase in unemployment and despair of our youth, the closing and collapse of financial institutions and businesses, beyond the dishonesty and nonchalance of the current administration, and the family and clan syndrome that has rightly shocked and outraged so many people, "said John Mahama.
John Mahama's candidacy as head of the NDC is currently in limbo as he has been dragged into court for trying to get re-elected to the presidency.
In a lawsuit cited by citinewsroom.com, Stephen Agyeman claims that Mahama's re-election proposal violates the 1992 Constitution and therefore asks the court to prevent the former president from arguing over the NDC primaries.
Mr. Agyeman requests a statement that John Mahama "can not claim to be a candidate for re-election as President of the Republic of Ghana" under section 68 paragraphs 2 to 9 of the Constitution.
But before the case was heard, John Mahama stepped up his campaign to convince delegates to vote for him in the next election.
John Mahama is competing for the party ticket with former Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Joshua Alabi; Alban Bagbin, Sylvester Mensah, former director of the NHIA; Ekow Spio-Garbrah, Goosie Tanoh and Nurudeen Idrissu will be the party bearers.
