Licensing of two Virginia dentists have been suspended by the Virginia Board of Dentistry for alleged drug-related offenses in exchange for dental work, reported WTKR.

Gary Hartman and Arnold Joseph Berger, of Virginia Beach, have been ordered to stop practicing dentistry, reported the television channel. Hartman's license was suspended on December 20, 2018, while Berger's license was suspended on February 1.
According to the summary of the suspension, Hartman would be accused of having prescribed more than 46,000 hydrocodone pills, more than 20,000 Soma pills and nearly 8,000 oxycodone pills to patients who He had not seen or needed the high doses that had been prescribed to them. Hartman is also accused of prescribing doses of Vicodin, tramadol, sleeping pills and anxiety medications to patients, according to the Board of Dentistry.
One patient reported to the Drug Enforcement Agency that Hartman had exchanged dental care for painkillers, dental scorers, or uninsured treatments, in exchange for a dentist's prescription and delivery of the pills.
The investigators said Berger had not only filled prescriptions for Hartman, but also opioids illegally prescribed to his patients and his wife, according to documents from the Board of Dentistry.
The Dental Council said Hartman's hearing on the suspension of his license is scheduled for May, reported WTKR. Berger's was scheduled for March but will be continued, reported the television channel.
