James Rodriguez dealt a heavy blow to Arsenal's hope of luring the Colombian to the Emirates by making him believe that he could return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Rodriguez currently took out a two-year loan with Bernabeu at Bayern Munich, but was not a regular at the first team throughout his stay in Germany.

He however started for the Bavarians at Anfield on Tuesday night, while Bayern kept Liverpool tied for a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their Champions League draw in the last 16.

Rodriguez was questioned about his future after the match, sparking interest from North London, but he gave no indication as to his intention to move to the Premier League.

Rodriguez hinted that he could return to Real Madrid

"In Madrid, I have just like my home and the people who love me," he said. "We will have to see what will happen, but for now, I have a contract with Bayern Munich.

"I just want to finish the season and we'll see what happens, I stay in touch with some Real Madrid players."

Rodriguez has played 13 times in the Bundesliga this season, scoring three goals.

The Colombian started for Bayern at Anfield

He signed for Real after appearing at the 2014 World Cup and scoring 13 Liga goals in his first term in the Spanish capital.

But his form plunged into the next two campaigns before being loaned to Bayern.
