According to reports in Portugal, Sporting CP could be ready to make gains on Liverpool and Bruno Fernandes, target of Chelsea this summer.
Fernandes has been in a sensational form for Sporting this season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions since the attacking midfielder.
The Portuguese international, who was part of the country's national team for the World Cup, drew Liverpool and Chelsea's attention with his goal-scoring exploits, while providing several aids to his team-mates.
Now, Portuguese release Correio De Manha claim that Sporting is ready to take advantage of the growing value of the Fernandes market by selling it in the summer. The club needs to raise money and the sale of its star player could be the best way to get that money back.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Chelsea sent scouts to watch Fernandes in the Sporting derby with Benfica – a match in which he scored despite a 2-1 defeat. Meanwhile, Liverpool was tied to a move for Fernandes in January.
However, the Premier League duo will face competition from European giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, PSG and Juventus, while the race for this 24-year-old is heating up.
Fernandes was named player of the season of the Portuguese league last year, and stayed with Sporting despite the initial decision to terminate his contract as a result of turbulent events off the field in summer.
The former man of Udinese and Sampdoria has signed a new contract until 2023 this summer, which provides for a release clause of 100 million euros. Fernandes recently inherited the captaincy Sporting Nani to the MLS.
