Illegal mining in the country is a current issue in the country in recent years and has provoked great campaigns and indignation of Ghanaians, especially because of the negative impact on the activities carried out on the water and land plans.
Citi FM led a campaign spanning several months with a petition to Parliament asking, among other things, that the mining sector be cleaned up.
The government, acting as part of the campaign, formed a joint police and military task force called Operation Vanguard to arrest and prosecute illegal artisbad miners in the country.
Although some arrests have taken place, rumors have circulated that the task force was tasked with taking bribes and leaving out small illegal miners, but the task force commanders denied badertions, claiming that the main problem of their work was the slow prosecution. and the lenient penalties imposed on those prosecuted.
